Welcome to the Deacon Ministry page. It is our desire to enhance the ministries of the thousands of deacons who serve in our Tennessee Baptist churches. Through the generous gifts of those churches through the Cooperative Program, we are able to provide valuable training and resources to churches as well as associations. The training can also be customized to fit the individual needs of a church.

Some of the most popular training opportunities are:

Basic Training for Deacons: an overview of the biblical understanding of calling and character of the deacon. This training focuses on what it means to “be” a deacon. The life of Philip is used as a biblical model.

Deacons and Pastors and Gardeners of the Fellowship: looks at the deacon’s role in establishing and maintaining a sense of healthy fellowship within the church body. Practical tips are shared on how to build a spirit of rich fellowship among believers.

Deacon Team Ministry: many churches are mobilizing their deacons through creating ministry teams that use the deacon’s specific spiritual gifts rather than making him “fit” into a single mold.

Deacon Family Ministry Plan: provides a foundation for successfully implementing this model of deacon ministry. Great emphasis is placed on the importance of “planning your work and working your plan.”

How to Deal with Conflict Biblically: few churches give much thought to the biblical process for dealing with conflict.  Therefore, when conflict occurs, most congregations react rather than respond.  There is hope for resolution and redemption when the Bible is our guide in handling conflict in the church.  This breakout looks at scripture — principles and practices—that sets forth a Christian response to conflict.
