Tennessee WMU Growth Plan
September 1, 2005 – August 31, 2010

STEP UP 2010 is a five-year Tennessee WMU growth plan designed to encourage WMU growth in churches and associations. If WMU grows and is effective, individuals will learn about the peoples of the world who do not know Jesus. People of all ages will spend time in prayer for missions and respond by giving to support missions. They will be involved personally in ministry to people in need. Above all, lost persons will come to know Jesus as Savior. These outcomes are the reason that WMU growth is needed. WMU is needed to help churches focus on missions and instill a heart for a lost world.

Key elements of STEP UP 2010 include:

Numerical Growth
Analyzing current levels of WMU participation and setting attainable but challenging goals for increased involvement in membership and organization. Identifying churches with missions growth potential.

Qualitative Growth
Encouraging quality missions education in every Tennessee Baptist church so that missions is integral, intentional and indispensable. Qualitative growth means doing missions with excellence. Qualitative missions growth can be linked to measurable ways churches pray for and give to missions, do missions, learn about missions, and lead individuals to develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle, as well as develop leaders.

Creative Pathways
Initiating projects, ministries and/or activities sponsored by WMU that can involve the entire church or existing groups within the church in some aspect of missions. Creating entry points into missions so that every person can participate in some way at least once a year.

Leadership Development
Providing training for leaders in all areas of WMU work and encouraging leaders to participate. Identifying and mentoring potential leaders for all WMU organizations.

Mentoring
Intentionally building relationships to pass on the passion for missions and plant seeds of faith, hope, love, and encouragement in the lives of others.

Churches and associations will be asked to set long-range goals related to each key element. Suggestions, resources and training will be provided throughout the five-year plan. Each year will include a particular emphasis as a guide to the overall development of the plan.
