Mississippi River Ministry

Mississippi River Ministry is a cooperative effort of the Baptist State conventions in the seven states that border the lower Mississippi River, the North American Mission Board, and Woman's Missionary Union. The US Government Delta Commission surveyed this part of the country in the late 1980's and found poverty levels and related needs to be extremely high, comparing to third world countries in some areas.
Baptists formed Mississippi River Ministry as a means to bring much needed resources into the Delta area to meet physical and spiritual needs.
In Tennessee, our territory is the 21 counties of West Tennessee between the Mississippi and Tennessee Rivers. There are 15 Baptist Associations included in this area. We fulfill our mission statement, "Making Christ known by connecting churches to people in need," as we assist churches in this area to discover needs, develop ministries, and find resources for ministry that reach out to people affected by poverty.
Volunteers come to West Tennessee from all around the country to assist with ongoing ministries or special projects such as Backyard Bible Clubs, housing rehabilitation, health clinics, church construction, food and clothing distribution, sports outreach, and job skills training.
